Well our time in Melaka wasn't quite what we had planned. We arrived in the evening and went out from dinner, did some laundry and caught up on sleep after a few mad busy days in Kuala Lumpur. We hoped to wake up feeling fresh and ready to explore a new city but both still felt shattered in the morning, Louise's legs were covered in insects bites and the heat was not helping (33degrees). We decided to have a day people watching in coffee shops and also wandering around the air conditioning shopping malls. We took our travel guides to read up on Singapore. With another early night planned we would see the sights of the city the next day. However, this was not too be, through the night Louise started with a fever, collapsed in the bathroom, hit her head/face, knocking herself unconscious and busting her nose. Her wonderful husband sprung into action and Louise was soon in an ambulance on the way to Melaka Hospital. The doctors, nurses etc were fantastic, even showing sympathy with Louise and her needle phobia. After numerous blood tests, assessments and observations. Louise was admitted to a ward. (It looked like a pre-wartime hospital ward). Everyone in the hospital was very excited to see a white person with blonde hair and blue eyes. Lots of smiles from visitors to the ward, we were definitely the topic of conversation. A visit to the dermatologist diagnosed a severe reaction to insects bites. Louise left the hospital with 8 different tablets to take a day and creams to put on.
That evening we went out for a little walk to see some of the main attractions of the city, went out for dinner and back to the hotel to rest before our journey to Singapore.
So as already said not quite to plan but it was an experience and all part of the adventure and Steve definitely passed the first test of "in sickness and in health".
